Bangla Music Workshop and Seminar

Sydney, Australia | 30 June 2019: Bangla music workshop and seminar, a very successful and maiden initiative by Bangla Academy Australia has just completed. The event appealed to the students of Bangla Academy Australia and greater sydney as well as to music lovers and those who love to immerse themselves in classical music. It took place in the Epping centre of the academy. The participation of people from all walks of lives made the event very lively and enchanted.

The workshop was free of charge to attract everyone who is interested in music. Those who participated in this rare workshop have stated that they have immensely benefited from it. Bangla Academy Australia and Bangla Academy International have continued its operation in Australia, Bangladesh, India and many countries in the world. Director Akash Anwar founded both with the dream of providing service to those who speak Bangla/Bengali and to all of humanity.

Yasmeen Islam, Ajoy Dasgupta, Selina Azad, Azad Rahaman, Mahua Haque, Sumita De, Akash Anwar, Roksana Rahman and a few others spoke to the audience. Writer and journalist Ajoy Dasgupta mentioned the notable contributions of Azad Rahaman and Selina Azad for writing kheyals in Bangla. Akash Anwar welcomed all the guests to the event. He spoke about the vision, teachings and generosity of the principal advisor of Bangla Academy Australia and national professor and very renowned academic of Bangladesh, professor Anisuzaman. Along with the director, many others remembered the belated Sayeda Hyder’s contribution. Respected member of Sydney community leader Nazrul Islam, concluded the first part with his congratulatory speech. The music maestro Azad Rahaman was presented with a crest on behalf of Bangla Academy Australia.

The workshop was conducted by Azad Rahaman. Very talented and experienced singer Selina Azad also participated in the workshop. She was accompanied by Rumana Azad, Nafisa Azad Samnan, Roksana Begum, Sumita De, Shikha Karmaker, Nusrat Jahan Smriti, Rita Karim, Taneem Mannan, Sabera Ferdous, Nipoon Haider, Fazlul Karim, Biplob Karmaker, Abu Sayeed, Sabbir Husain, Jakia Parveen and other invited artists. The artists discussed the usage of different instruments.

Nabila Srotaswini, Adreeta Rahman, Aron Karmaker, Pritha Rajbangshi, Arpan Karmaker, Rohan Rahman, Smita Rajbangshi, Smriti Roy, Tanisha Hossain, Ishfar Hossain, Rupanti Ray, Renita Husain, Sadman Swapnil, Shabib Husain, Safeer Husain and many other students also participated in the workshop.

The participants had a fun filled day exploring and learning many new things about music. They have learnt Bengali kheyal and different genres of music including classical music. Azad Rahaman and Selina Azad distributed certificates amongst the participants. Retired SBS journalist and a very well known social worker from Sydney Mrs Mahua Haque, presented the honorable guests with crests to conclude the second half. The director of Bangla Academy Australia and Bangla Academy International, Akash Anwar, concluded the event by thanking everyone for their contribution and participation.

Bangla Academy Australia organised the seminar and workshop on behalf of ‘Bangla Open For a Worldwide’. The organisers hope that this event will go a long way to enrich and benefit Bangla/Bengali music and its followers in Australia and around the world.
